A MOBILE PROJECT SPACE
Milkfloat is a new initiative for 2013 from Milkwood Gallery.
Originally a simple metaphor for the process of taking art out of the gallery and into a wider arena, Milkfloat now also exists as a physical space, in the form of a renovated 1960's caravan which is made available to all participating artists as a mobile studio/exhibiting/meeting &/or living space.
The project is committed to bringing audiences and art together both within and also outside the context of a fixed gallery space. Milkfloat aims to attract new, diverse audiences, to widen and deepen participation and engagement with the visual arts, and to encourage innovative contemporary art practice and stimulate critical debate.
The selected artists and residency dates for the first Milkfloat season are
June 2013
July 2013
August 2013
September 2013
November 2013
An offshoot of Milkwood Gallery, Milkfloat is a visual art project founded on the belief that artists are cultural conveyors and commentators. Successful community engaged art engenders a sense of ownership, involvement and wellbeing in the participant and the audience, encouraging people to examine and question the world around them and to find new ways of making sense of the human experience. Through their work, ideas and practices, artists can inspire people and enrich lives, contributing to quality of life and education, prompting the audience to reflect without any need to 'dumb down' or compromise the quality of artwork. Milkfloat’s practical aims arise from this belief in the value of art practice, particularly through commissioning and exhibiting challenging, new, critically engaged work.
