Milkwood sits between the busy streets of Albany Road and Wellfield Road in Roath, and is a small, volunteer/artist run gallery and project space, focusing on early career artists, and providing a multi faceted community resource. Milkwood was concieved in response to local demand for more provision for artists and art lovers in the Roath area of Cardiff. Since opening in 2009, it has grown in ambition, reach and reputation, with 2013 seeing the introduction of the Milkfloat project : a mobile project space, commissioning community engaged artwork by Wales based artists and supported by the Arts Council of Wales.
In a converted dairy around a courtyard, the gallery is currently expanding as the shop is being made smaller to create more space for exhibiting. Please note, that milkwood will be closed throughout August 2013 for refurbishment.
Cahoots the Dressmaker and the Stitchery both have studios at milkwood, with Cahoots providing a full tayloring and repair service and the Stitchery running sewing classes for all ages and abilities.
