Beyond The Tipping Point
Film screening and discussion
Thursday 30th September, 7.30pm - 9.30pm
How does the way we imagine the future change how we think and act today?
Beyond The Tipping Point invites us to consider this question by exploring attitudes to climate change. The imagery of "tipping points", drawn originally from scientific research, has increasingly influenced the way politicians, activists, and journalists imagine how greenhouse gas emissions might have irreversible and unpredictable effects on global climate.
But what effect might this way of thinking about the future have on the prospects for mitigating climate change now? Does it galvanise action, or induce despair?
Join us for a screening of the film, followed by discussion of the issues it raises, beginning with a wine reception at 7.30pm.

madeinroath 2010
October this year will see the follow up to last year’s hugely successful madeinroath arts festival. The festival will be taking place on 15th - 17th October 2010, and here at Milkwood we are delighted to be hosting a number of exhibitions and workshops put together especially for the festival. These include Shaun Featherstone's basement project 'Stuck' : an interactive community based installation in our basement, more info on this project at http://milkwoodgallery.wordpress.com/about/ . Milkwood will also host artist and writer Jennie Savage's Guide to Getting Lost which offers participants a unique opportunity to explore the locale. Film maker Jonathan Thomas will be working on his project hantise in the upstairs gallery constructing an ephemeral museum of discarded/forgotten objects collected from the local area. The physical, material objects are contrasted with their videographic representations, evoking ideas concerning memory, time, place and subjectivity. Members of the public will be invited to participate in a workshop run by Jonathan during the festival; watch this space for more details about this and other madeinroath events at Milkwood.
In the ground floor gallery, Cardiff based jeweller Kate Dumbleton and milliner Catherine Povey will also be exhibiting the results of their exciting collaborative Welsh Goddess project in October, details to follow.
